April 5, 2009

PEORIA - Megan Hood, a Southern Illinois University Edwardsville senior from Coulterville, finished in the top 10 as an individual Sunday in the final round of the 2009 Hotels at Grand Prairie Collegiate Classic at the par-72, 6,137-yard WeaverRidge Golf Club.

Hood shot identical rounds of 80 at the two-day tournament. It was SIUE's best rounds overall as well.

The Cougars placed 11th in a 14-team field of NCAA Division I competition. SIUE edged Bowling Green State, Chicago State and Wisconsin-Green. The Cougars team score of 676 was six strokes from 10th place Loyola.

Drake won the 36-hole tournament with a team score of 632. The Bulldogs used a even-par round 72 from medalist Olivia Lansing to defeat Missouri State for team honors.

SIUE's Sarah Gereaux (Dwight) was the team's next best finisher in 55th with a 171. Kirstin Fischer (Godfrey), Courtney Lovegreen (Kirksville, Mo.) and Kelsey Atteberry (Auburn) each tied for 68th overall with a 177. Sheena Collins (Edwardsville) placed 83rd overall with a 186.

The tournament, hosted by Bradley University, was originally scheduled to be a two-day, 54-hole event. After battles with weather forecasts, tournament organizers settled for a 36-hole event after learning temperatures would be in the 40s Monday with a chance for snow.
