Golf Outing Raises $10,000 for Local Chapter of American Red Cross

Bethalto, Illinois -- The Southwestern Illinois Chapter of the American Red Cross was the recipient of $10,000 on October 8th, after Olin Community Credit Union hosted its 1st Annual Charity Golf Outing at Woodlands Golf Club in Alton. "The support from our community was reflected in the amount of participation and sponsorships we received," said Amber Scott, marketing manager for Olin Community Credit Union. Scott continued, "Our community was committed to giving back to the American Red Cross, which assisted our area during recent flooding and continues to send local volunteers to help in areas affected by the hurricanes."

Greg Worthen, Director of Lending at the credit union, who also serves on the board of the local American Red Cross chapter, stated, "People helping people is the core of the credit union philosophy and the American Red Cross demonstrates that philosophy in each of its services." The Southwestern Chapter of the American Red Cross was selected as the recipient for all proceeds from the golf outing because their service territory and philosophy closely match those of the credit union.

The American Red Cross is an integral organization in the community, providing disaster relief, health and safety services, medical assistance and much more. During 2007, 648 volunteers helped deliver programs and services to 33,752 people locally and 12,656 people while on 3 National Disaster Relief Operations.
